Three Humane Ways to Get Rid of Rodents

Three Humane Ways to Get Rid of Rodents
01 Jul2015

According to most of the health research facilities and disease control units, rats and mice are vectors of around 35 different diseases. Eliminating them from the household is essential for ensuring good health of your family. However, if you are not quite fond of deploying rat poisons or glue traps because of their threats to kids and pets at your home, there are several humane ways to get rid of rodent infestations. Here we have discussed about three effective as well as amiable humane methods, which you can use to deter rodents from your abode.

The Toilet Paper Roll Trap

For making this, you will need an empty roll of toilet paper, a trash bin and a raisin. At first, flatten the roll slightly to prevent it from rolling when placed on the ground. Keep it on the side of your kitchen counter with one end of it extending beyond the edge. Now, put the raisin at the extending end and place the trash bin under it. As soon as a mouse or rat enters the roll, it will fall into the bin due to its weight. The trash bin should be fairly tall so that the rodent may not be able to escape by jumping over its edge.

Spring-Loaded Trap

This kind of trap generally has a door loaded with spring. Purchase one from the market and use a cracker with a little bit of peanut butter as bait. Place the trap in the suspected area. Once the rat or mouse enters the trap, its door will shut and trap the rodent inside.

Bucket Trap

Half fill a bucket with water and place a dry sponge or some other floating object efficient enough to prop the rodent’s weight. Attach some food item to the handle of the bucket by means of a string and keep the handle in upright position. When the mouse or rat will come in search of food and try to reach the item hanging from the handle, it will end up falling in the bucket and swim to the sponge.

When you are releasing the captured rodent from any of these traps, make sure you are doing so at some place away from your house.
