A Detailed Guide On Surviving the Tick Season During Springs
12 Aug2020

As the winter comes closer, everyone in Northern Beaches long for the warmer weather and lovely flowers that marks the beginning of Spring.  But something else even comes up with Spring, and that is the multiplied activities of the ticks.

No wonders that the ticks are present all year round, but they are active during the Spring, and that is why our today’s topic is on the ticks and how can they be controlled.

The Basics Regarding Ticks

North Shore aside, over 70 ticks' species are found among which the paralysis tick is the most common one. People of Eastern Australia keep on complaining about being bitten by these paralysis tick.

The life cycle of a tick undergoes four stages and the main ingredient they need blood for their growth and make progress to the next stage.

  • Eggs - Ticks lay eggs in summer
  • Larvae - About 1mm long larvae are light brown and are largely visible during autumn
  • Nymph - Nymphs are 2mm long approximately, and are pale brown. They are mostly seen during the winters.
  • Adult - The adult ticks are about 4.55 mm long and have no blood. They are generally visible at the time of spring. The female ticks are dependent on blood for receiving proteins and lay eggs.

In high humidity, especially after rain, the ticks become very active. Generally, they do not climb up trees or plants. They are known to wait for their prey in the long grass.

What Happens When the Ticks Bite?

Ticks pierce their prey’s skin for injecting anticoagulant saliva for feeding on their blood, as they need it. Maybe most bites result in redness and the area swells up, but the ticks' saliva is highly toxic to human beings and animals and is likely to make them suffer from tick paralysis or anaphylaxis.
The ticks paralysis symptoms are headache, symptoms of flu, partial facial analysis, and limb weakness.  The anaphylaxis symptoms include throat swelling and it leads to breathing ailment.

What Do You Have to Do When You Notice A Tick?

If you have visited a tick-infested area, then you have to remove your clothes and put them in the dryer and keep them there for 20 minutes. Check if ticks are attached to your body, pay attention to behind the ears, back of the neck, and head, which is the ticks' favoured hiding spots.
If you are not allergic to the ticks, then you have frozen the tick using an ether containing a product and then remove them. After you have sprayed, then you have to grab the tick closer to your skin with the help of the fine-tipped forceps. Forgo using the tweezers. But, if you are concerned, then make it a point to visit your doctor at the earliest.

What Should You do to Prevent the Ticks?

In the first place when you find the ticks have outgrown in number, then you have to take the help of the tick control professionals in North Shore. At the same time, you should even wear long sleeves clothes and long pants properly stuck into the socks while walking in the gardens or the tick prone areas.  Apply DEET so the ticks are away. Try to wear light-coloured clothes to detect them easily.

Ticks dislike dry and sunny environments. Therefore, fix the leaky taps and do not leave the garden watering systems run on for a longer time period. Prune your bushes well so that their hiding spots are restricted. Clean up the leaf litters and seal the compost bin well so that the ticks carriers like rodents and ticks are shown the door.

Lay a wooded mulch or else gravel in between your yard and the bush if your home is sharing a border with bushland.
If you have pets at home, then check their fur thoroughly and focus on the hiding spots like behind the ears, in between the toes and under their legs.

Everyone in North Shore loves outdoors a lot and definitely reject the creepy creatures like the ticks. The entire discussion on ticks is meant for guiding you to know about its life cycle, and what should you do if you find one sticking to you. The best way to avoid them is by calling the professionals to deal with the ticks.
