Fleas are tiny bloodsucking parasites, which thrive on the body of birds and mammals. There are dog fleas, cat fleas and also human fleas, which survive on body of humans. Other than transmitting diseases, fleas are even able to infest your abode. In most of the cases, this kind of flea infestation is caused by pets. It is actually these pests who are carriers of these parasites on their furry body.

Once fleas enter the house, they settle on spaces such as upholstery, carpets, cracks & crevices. If you notice signs of flea infestation in your abode, take quick action for getting rid of them. Different chemical products are available for flea extermination but try not to use them. Go for natural remedies to eradicate these parasites.

There are several natural remedies, which are found to be effective in eliminating fleas. Some of those remedies are effective for fleas on pests while others are used for infestation of flea in house. However, the first thing that you need to do when you discover fleas is clean all the interiors & surroundings of your house thoroughly. You should also make sure to treat your pet for preventing re-infestation.

Given below is a list of things that you should do to eliminate fleas naturally.

Baking soda & salt

Fleas take shelter on carpets. So, to get rid of them you need to disinfect the carpet thoroughly. For doing so you can use baking soda & salt. Take equal amounts and mix both of them well. Then sprinkle the mixture on  the flooring covering and keep it night long. Make sure to vacuum the carpet next day. The mixture will certainly dehydrate & kill fleas.

Diatomaceous earth

This is a powder made up of crushed seashells. It is considered very effective in dehydrating as well as killing fleas. All that's needed is sprinkling this powder on carpets & furniture before vacuuming interiors of the home. Sprinkling them throughout the yard is also a good idea for preventing flea infestation. One more thing that you can do is plant some herbs such as pennyroyal, lavender and mint in the yard to repel fleas.

More natural remedies

  • You can keep cedar wood chips and leaves of eucalyptus tree in those parts of your house that are heavily infested with fleas in order to get rid of them.
  • Essential oils are also natural repellents to flea. So, what you can do is apply eucalyptus oil, citronella oil and lavender oil on the body of your pets. You can also some drops of these oils when rinsing your pet's bedding.
  • If you don't have these oils, you can mix white vinegar and water equally and spray it on your pet's body.
  • Adding some garlic in pet food or mixing some apple cider vinegar in drinking water for pet is also a good idea.


Cleaning activities

The moment you find that there are fleas in your house, start cleaning your properly properly. Make sure to vacuum all corners of your rooms everyday including the carpets, upholstery and furniture. Put your pet in quarantine and shampoo him or her with flea shampoo and lukewarm water. Make use of flee combs for removing those parasites from its body and place flea traps in different parts of your house.
