How Do You Know Your Home Is Attractive to the Pests?
12 Jan2024

The very sight of unwanted pests in your home will send your brain the information they should not be given a second chance. A pest-free home is the result of pest control  treatments done on time and avoiding a series of pitfalls. The more you get rid of pest risks, the safer your home is and your family. It is better you know what are the factors attracting pests inside your home. Additionally, you will have to take these preventive tips for stopping these bugs from creating their comfort zone at your home.

1. Moisture in Your Home

Pests need water similar to all human beings. Never will the pest problem end if your home suffers from excessive humidity, leaking pipes and overall dampness. There are no other alternatives to sealing the leaks at the earliest to stop the water supply for pests. Damp areas are the favourite among rats and cockroaches. Termites love devouring the moisture-damaged wood. Infact, the small amounts of water dripping from the air conditioners attract the wasps foraging for water.

Undisturbed standing water for above a week is a major mosquito breeding spot. Your lawn should be free of debris and contain no standing water. Drain flies take pleasure in slimy film in unused drains which is their ideal breeding spot. Any fixtures, leaking pipes and drains should be repaired with a sense of emergency.

2. Neglected Food and Dirty Dishes

Times and oft, we become the reasons for welcoming pests inside homes. Once the numbers start soaring, then we are left with the option to hire the pest control professionals providing their services in North Shore.  How often have we ignored the crumbs and spillages? These are the pests' minions! Insects and rodents find their forever-soul handsome food supply. These leftovers should be disposed of soon. Keeping the food areas clean, and storing sweet foods and crackers in tight-lid containers are the ideal anti-pest attitudes every one of us should master. Otherwise, rodents and insects will nibble through comfortably and treat themselves to a sweet meal. The smallest crumb is so powerful to welcome pests to home.

Moreover, we are late cleaning the dishes in the sink, favourable it is favourable for the pests. Insects and other critters are overjoyed when they find the last lining of the curry on the plate turning stale. So, right on being done with meal times, clean and empty the sink. Never forget to wipe down the kitchen counter's surfaces. Even do not forget to store food in sealed plastic and glass containers.

3. Ingnored Trash and Unforgotten Recycling

Trash lying around your home sends out warm greetings to the pests. The smells attract the pests from far and wide. These food sources are excellent to encourage pest infestation. To avoid unwanted pest infestation, seal and bag the garbage properly and store them in closed containers. The trash can lid should be shut tight. The best is to take the trash can outside once it has become full.

4. Forgotten De-Clutter

Say food clutters, untidy and disorganized messes full of dust, and cluttered spaces with scattered boxes are never overlooked by the spiders, cockroaches, rodents and more, especially when the lights are turned off.  As long as the weather is warm and dry, they remain hidden. The glue used to bind cardboard boxes is termites' favourites. Even silverfish and cockroaches enjoy munching on paper products. There are objects we dont use every day, which should be stored in sealed containers, discarded if they won't be of use any longer.

5. Visible Cracks and Holes

By no means will the pests stop once they have found the tiny cracks and holes around your home. A quarter-inch opening is enough for the mouse to enter a home. Easy entry points are the holes in the siding or gaps under the door. Cracks plugged with silicone caulk, expandable foam sealant and steel wool are one solution. Sealing gaps under doors, holes from where wires and pipes are coming, and cracks in baseboard somewhat shut out the pests. We cannot normally reach the space inside holes, but pests make good use of these hiding spots. Insects use these cracks as their homes. The larger these spaces are, rodents will find an easy entrance. So filling all the holes and cracks will prevent the pests from securing adequate hiding space.

Pests enjoy the damaged window screens. So, never forget to inspect the screens and repair any tears or gaps on a regular basis to prevent pests from entering. To keep the tiny insects out, make sure there are no holes in window and door screens.  If a fully functional screen is not closed completely, even then the threat is the same as damaged screens. Ensure the door screens and window screens are fully closed when opening and closing. To further stop ants, cockroaches and crickets in their tracks, replace the rubbery bottom of exterior entrances.

Before the pests wreak havoc, get in touch with a pest control professional. Once your home has become attractive to pests, it will be tough on your part to get rid of them. You might have tried the tips we have shared with the factors above, but these are not yielding the results you expect -  then you will need the services of competitive pest control services.
